How to resize a photo for Instagram
Instagram may cut images that do not match its preferred ratios. Resize first for posts and profile pictures so your photo looks sharp and you stay in control of the final frame.
Feed posts look best at 1080px wide
Instagram recommends 1080px width for feed images. Square posts are 1080 by 1080. Portrait posts are 1080 by 1350 (4:5). Landscape posts are about 1080 by 566 (1.91:1).
Stories and Reels use 9:16
Full-screen Stories and Reels are 1080 by 1920. Other ratios get letterboxed or trimmed on mobile.
Crop vs fit
Crop fills the Instagram size and trims edges. Drag the border to choose the frame, and use the corners to resize it. Fit scales the full image into the frame with padding.
