Check format and availability · up to 30 characters
Instagram usernames must follow strict rules. Checking availability first helps you avoid typing an invalid handle or spending time on one that is already taken.
Instagram allows 1 to 30 characters in a username. Longer handles will be rejected when you try to create or change the account.
Spaces, symbols, and emoji are not allowed. Usernames are also case-insensitive, so @Brand and @brand are the same handle.
A username cannot start or end with a period, and it cannot contain two periods in a row.
If a username shows as available, claim it quickly. Popular handles can be taken by someone else at any time.
Type the handle without the @, then click Check availability. This tool validates Instagram username rules and looks up whether a public profile already exists.
